Pushkar is a town bordering the Thar Desert, in the northeastern Indian state of Rajasthan.

It's set on Pushkar Lake, a sacred Hindu site with 52 ghats where pilgrims bathe. The town has hundreds of temples, including 14th-century Jagatpita Brahma Mandir, dedicated to the god of creation, which has a distinctive red spire and walls inlaid with pilgrims’ silver coins.

1. Pushkar Lake

Encompassed by over 50 bathing Ghats, the lake is situated in the Ajmer area of Rajasthan. Set in the midst of lovely slopes, the lake is one of the top vacation destinations of Rajasthan. Known to be the king of all pilgrimage sites the Pushkar Lake hosts more than 400 temples around its precincts and is visited by a large number of devotees during the Pushkar Fair.

2. Jagatpita Brahma Temple

Located close to Pushkar Lake the temple is one of the best places to visit in Pushkar. The idyllic spot of worship was constructed in the 14th century. Built of marble and stone, it has a one of a kind architecture alongside the superb red pinnacle. Inside the temple, pictures of Brahma enrich the sanctum sanctorum.

3. Varah Temple

Varah Temple is among the oldest, and most famous temples in Pushkar. Out of the biggest and most antiquated temples in Pushkar, Varah is one. The temple is dedicated to Varaha, a boar thought to be an incarnation of Lord Vishnu. According to a legend Lord Shiva turned himself into a wild boar and came to earth, to kill the heinous demon Hirnayaksh. A spot of veneration, the temple is an old architectural work of art constructed in the 12th century. The highlight of the spot is the picture house present inside. Given the one of a kind perfection of its structural components, this temple is considered amongst the finest in this locale, and another must see place.

. Savitri Temple

Set on the Ratnagiri Hill, Savitri Temple has a folk tale going around it. It is thought to be a site where the Goddess Savitri came and rested subsequent to rebelling against her husband on marrying another woman. She constructed the temple and it served as a post to watch her better half’s blundering ways. The course leading to the place winds through the slopes.

5. Ramavaikunth Temple

Ramavaikunth Temple – built in the 20th century – is set atop a hill; thus offering scenic view of the Pushkar lake as well as the entire town of Pushkar. The sanctum is located in a very large space with an enormous gopuram constructed in southern architecture. The sky-scraping spires coupled with titanic pagodas of the shrine make it a delightful sight for the travelers.

6. Man Mahal

The biggest royal residence in Pushkar, Man Mahal is one of the stunning tourist places in Pushkar. It was constructed and preserved by Raja Man Singh-I, who used to come to this place for rest and vacation. Presently the royal retreat center is a public guest house.

7. Rangji Temple

The inner parts of this regal shrine are a visual treat for visitors. Set on the banks of the lake on which you can go for cruising expeditions on these peaceful waters, Rangji Shrine is dedicated to Lord Rangii. The place is one of the few in Pushkar that encompasses South Indian architecture.

8. Pushkar Bazaar

The Pushkar Bazaar is amongst the most famous spots to visit in Pushkar. The wares sold in this commercial center give you an insight of the culture here. Be it the weaved fabrics, utensils made of metal, glass items, cowhide sacks made of camel skin, and belts; there’s much to pick. Rose pulp is another quite popular item in Pushkar Bazaar, and so are the traditional Rajasthani outfits. Surprisingly, all items are pretty reasonably priced.
